Understanding impact

Need - does the project fulfil an identified need in the community or communities where it will operate?

Urgency - is the need the project addresses urgent and pressing?

Breadth - how broadly does the project impact on the life of its target beneficiaries and others?

Depth - the complexity and depth of impact of the project's objectives.

Intensity - the rate and frequency of the project's intervention. Will a large number of people benefit in a once-off way or is the frequency of engagement more intense and of a longer duration?

Permanence - the duration of the project's results. How long will these last?

Understanding risk

Concept - the strengths and risks of the project's approach.

Design - the strengths and risks of the methods used. Are they effective and proven? Or are they innovative and untried?

Capability - the strengths and risks of the project's leadership. Are the leaders experienced and skilled?

Control - transparency, governance and finances.

Sustainability - will the project have a lasting impact? Is it able to continue beyond the funded timeframe?
