How the exchange works
SASIX helps potential givers to become highly effective social investors. We make carefully selected social development projects available as investment opportunities with a social return.
It is an easy, effective and accountable way to invest in South Africa's development:
- Our social investment projects are carefully selected and assessed using specially designed evaluation tools.
- This website presents a suite of projects to choose from. You can select a single project or create your own portfolio.
- Investors have the option of setting up their own Giving Foundation – a personalised charitable fund which you can set up as a family, an individual or as a business.
- Investors buy shares in SASIX projects online or through GreaterCapital.
- GreaterCapital facilitates the transfer of your funds to the beneficiary organisations through a transparent and accountable process.
- Investors can keep track of how their investments are performing and view the impact they are having online.
Buying shares
Each social share costs R50. So, a project that needs R75 000 makes 1 500 shares available for investment. The minimum investment you can make in any project is a single share, for R50. You can pay securely using a credit card, certain debit cards, internet bank transfer or direct deposit. You can also allocate funds from Your Giving Foundation Fund balance to SASIX projects.
Money is not the only currency we accept. You can also donate using:
- American Express MR points
- Nedbank Greenbacks
- eBucks
Tracking performance
As a SASIX investor, you can monitor the level of investment in the project on our website. Once a project is fully funded, we send regular progress reports and a final project performance report to investors.
If a project is listed for longer than twelve months without receiving enough funding to be implemented, the project offering will 'expire' and investors will have the option of allocating their contribution to another SASIX project, a Focus Fund, or an organisation of their choice, as long as it has the same tax status.
