What kinds of projects are available?
Investment opportunities are available in seven priority development sectors: food security and agriculture, small business development, vulnerable people, animal protection, education, health, environment and conservation. These sectors were chosen specifically for their alignment to the Millennium Development Goals, as well as their national and regional significance in the lives of people and communities. Additional sectors are also being explored.
Projects are selected from non-profit or social profit organisations working in these fields in all the nine provinces of South Africa. We select projects that reflect our understanding of current good practice, based on research and in consultation with experts in these sectors.
SASIX places an emphasis on projects and organisations that truly empower individuals and communities, so that they can build self-sufficiency and sustainability in the long term. It also includes some projects that contribute to the safety net of welfare, to ensure that we are a nation that takes proper care of our weakest and most vulnerable citizens.
